Sixteen months after its formation, St. Christopher's parish celebrated the most important event in its history --- the formal dedication of one of the most up-to-the-minute church-schools in the Columbus Dioceses. The Most Rev. Michael J. Ready, Bishop of Columbus, solemnized the occasion before offering the First Mass in the new church at 10:30 a.m., Sunday, May 30th, 1948.
A capacity congregation of more than 450 parishioners participated in the Pontifical Mass, which crowned an unusual feat in parochial history. The parish was created by Bishop Ready in January, 1947, and was placed under the pastorship of the Rev. Albert E. Culliton.
Father Culliton offered the first Mass for his parishioners in the John Quint Funeral Home, W. Fifth Ave., February 9, 1947. Shortly after, he transferred to the Grandview Theatre. Nine months after the parish was formed, ground was broken by Bishop Ready on the five acre tract surrounded by Grandview, Ida and Hollywood avenues.
The cornerstone was laid December 28, 1947, by the Most Rev. Edward G. Hettinger, Auxiliary Bishop of Columbus, for what Father Culliton planned to be the center of activity for his parishioners.
Over the years many priests have served this loving community well. Today we have Fr. Andrzej Kozminski our pastor.
